THE THIRD PLACE

What is Bliiida?

Bliiida brings together artists, entrepreneurs, and craftspeople to experiment and share. Ideas are tested, transformed, and spread at the intersection of culture, design, and technology.

Live performance residency

For performing arts companies.

Are you looking for a rehearsal space, whether indoors or outdoors? In a spirit of supporting creation, BLIIIDA provides spaces tailored to your needs, such as The Walking Ghosts Hall, our large hall equipped with a stage, control room, and blackout system. You also benefit from a loan of technical equipment including sound, lighting, and video. Based on a project partnership principle, live performance residencies provide access to facilities for a maximum duration of 14 consecutive days, with public presentations highly encouraged.

Fabrication residency

For local associations

Enjoy the ideal setting for creating stage designs, signage, or furniture for your projects and events. In our workshops, you'll have independent access to workspaces equipped with workbenches, storage areas, and our shared machinery and tools. In this professional environment, leverage the creative ecosystem of the space. Fabrication residencies are available for a maximum duration of two months, depending on your project and its needs.

Creative residency

For artists and students

Bliiida opens its doors to help you successfully complete your research and prototyping projects, prepare an exhibition, or create a work of art. Gain access to an autonomous creative space while benefiting from a unique multidisciplinary ecosystem. Whether for plastic arts, literary, or digital works, the third place can meet your technical needs thanks to its numerous available spaces and equipment. Artistic creation residencies are accessible for a maximum duration of two months, depending on your project's needs.

Explore Bliiida

The Courtyard
Located at the heart of the site, Bliiida's large courtyard connects the former bus depot and the old Metz city slaughterhouses. This is where we welcome you for outdoor events.
Former Municipal Slaughterhouses
Now converted into a storage area, the last remaining building of the former Metz city slaughterhouses runs alongside Bliiida Avenue. It also houses the operations of Les Coursiers de Metz.
The Walking Ghosts Hall
An artwork by Etienne Bardelli transformed into a fully equipped event hall. The Walking Ghosts Hall enables Bliiida to host major events and live performance residencies.
The Canteen
Fully equipped and furnished, Bliiida's canteen is the nerve center of the third place. Every day, residents and external visitors meet and mingle there over signature dishes from our resident caterer: L'Amour Food.
Shared Metal Workshop
Located beneath the Grande Halle, the shared metal workshop spans 300m2. It allows artists and metal craftspeople to subscribe for access to shared equipment.
Community Coworking
Managed by the non-profit association "Coworking Metz," Le Poulaillier offers 40 workstations spread across two spaces totaling 230m2.
Shared Glass Workshop
Inaugurated in 2025, Bliiida's torch-blown glass workshop features 4 equipped workstations, allowing it to host as many glassblowers daily on site.
Shared Wood Workshop
200m2 dedicated to woodworking, located in the heart of Bliiida's workshops. Available by subscription, these fully equipped shared workshops enable woodworking professionals to develop their activities and bring their projects to life on a daily basis.

Bliiida is primarily

strong values

Experimentation

A true toolbox, Bliiida acts as a project facilitator within an entrepreneurial framework. The third place encourages mentorship, initiative-taking, and secures career paths in sectors where economic models sometimes diverge from market logic.

Entrepreneurship

BLIIIDA contributes to the development and sustainability of employment, professional activity, and businesses in the artistic and creative sectors broadly, supporting professional integration and combating the precariousness faced by authors and artists.

Access to culture

Throughout the year, Bliiida presents a program of unique cultural events highlighting the talents, expertise, and partners of the region. Bliiida is committed to implementing the most accessible pricing policy possible to make its events open to the widest audience.

Pooling resources

Bliiida offers services that encourage an alternative way of producing by pooling production resources (machines, tools, spaces, etc.). In doing so, the third place contributes to the emergence of project leaders by limiting the initial investment required for their activities.

Collective intelligence

Deeply multidisciplinary, Bliiida encourages encounters and the cross-pollination of skills, expertise, and networks. We are convinced that innovative, inspiring, and unique projects emerge from the meeting of diverse profiles.

Sharing

At Bliiida, sharing is more than just a principle: it's a driving force. It fuels projects, connects people, and circulates ideas. From informal exchanges to spontaneous collaborations, from feedback to collective projects, it creates an environment where mutual support goes beyond simple cooperation to become a true collective dynamic.

2019

Creation of the Fluxus incubator

Following the transfer of the Metz Region Public Transport maintenance center to Woippy in 2013, the 30,000m2 site became an industrial wasteland. In October of the same year, it hosted the sixth Metz edition of Nuit-Blanche. Metz artists discovered the site and took it over. The need for a cultural creation and production space in Metz emerged. In 2014, the site welcomed its first resident organizations, driven by the City of Metz.

2025

Rental management and new governance

In early 2025, the Bliiida association takes over the site's rental management. Its ownership is transferred to the Eurométropole de Metz. The association independently manages the residences of artists, craftspeople, and entrepreneurs. This structural change in the third-place's operation is accompanied by a revision of its association statutes.
A new shared governance for a locally rooted project that is open to citizen memberships, in addition to users, partners, local authorities, and employees.
